2.88 FAQ-919 ASCII Import filters or import options saved to a sheet fail after upgrading to Origin 2018

Last Update: 1/23/2018

Origin's ASCII import code was modified for Origin 2018 SR0 (b9.5.0.193). Users with import filter files (*.OIF) and workbook files (*.OGW) that have been customized for data import with earlier versions of Origin should be able to use those files without problems.

If you DO encounter problems while importing data using older Origin import filter files (.OIF) files or workbook files (.OGW) in which you have saved import settings, you should convert the files for use in Origin 2018.

Converting an .OGW file from Origin 2017 or earlier, to Origin 2018 SR0 or Later

  1. Open the Origin 2017 (or earlier) .OGW file in Origin 2018.
  2. Open the Script Window (Window: Script Window) and verify that ...
    @IA = <Enter>
    ... returns a value of 2.
  3. Re-import your ASCII file.
  4. Resave the workbook (File: Save Window As) as File type = .OGW.

Converting an .OIF file from Origin 2017 or earlier, to Origin 2018 SR0 or Later

  1. Open the Script Window (Window: Script Window) and verify that ...
    @IA = <Enter>
    ... returns a value of 2.
  2. Drag and drop an ASCII file that uses the older .OIF for import.
  3. Right-click on the workbook title bar and choose Show Organizer.
