Data Requirements

Select one or more columns or a range of data from at least one column.

Creating the Graph

Bar Chart

  1. Select the data
  2. From Origin menu, select Plot > Statistical: Bar Chart

Bar Chart with Data Points Overlap

  1. Select the data
  2. From Origin menu, select Plot > Statistical: Bar Overlap

Bar Chart with Normal Distribution Curve

  1. Select required data.
  2. From the menu, select Plot > Statistical: Bar Normal.

Notes

The bar chart is a variation of the box chart whose upper line represents Mean value and error bar represents the data range within 1.5*Interquartile Range by default. You can go to the Box tab of Plot Details dialog to change the settings.

By default, the vertical axis scale begins at 0; or if minimum dataset value is less than 0, the vertical scale reflects the minimum value.

The bar chart with data points overlapped can be created from bar chart, by setting Type to Bar + Data Overlap on the Box tab of Plot Details dialog and selecting Jitter Points on the Data tab. Similarly, the bar chart with Normal distribution curve can be created from bar chart by setting Type to Bar[Left] + Data [Right] on the Box tab of Plot Details dialog and setting Distribution Curve: Type to Normal on the Data tab.
