Summary

The Paired Comparison Plot App is used to create a bar chart (including several variations) with significant differences.

Tutorial

This tutorial uses App’s built-in sample project. To open this sample OPJU file:

  1. Right click the Paired Comparison Plot App icon in the Apps Gallery and choose Show Samples Folder.
  2. A folder will open. Drag-and-drop the project file Sample Graphs.opju from the folder onto Origin.
Notes: If you want to save the project after changing, it is recommended saving it to a different folder location (e.g. User Files Folder).

Steps

  1. Activate worksheet [Book1]Sheet1! in Folder1. Click the Paired Comparison Plot App icon Paired Comparison Plot icon.png in Apps Gallery to open the app's dialog box.
  2. Select col(E): Health: Health expenditure, total as Data Column and col(C): Developing Index as Group Columns. Here we select one group column to conduct One-Way ANOVA. Leave other settings as default and click OK. A graph is created and a new worksheet PCPlotData with the mean and standard error is appended to source workbook.

  3. Go back to worksheet [Book1]Sheet1!. Highlight col(E). Click the Paired Comparison Plot App icon to open the app's dialog box again.
  4. This time we will select two group columns to conduct Two-Way ANOVA for comparison. In Group Columns list box, click the triangle button Triangle button.png to select two groups - col(B): Region and col(C): Developing Index
  5. Choose Asterisk with Bracket for Significant Mark. Leave other settings as default and click OK to generate the graph.

  6. We can quickly change the settings by clicking on the green lock at the top-left corner of the graph and selecting Change Parameters. This will open the app’s dialog again. Select Developing Index in Group Columns list box and click Move Up button ^ to switch the order of groups, so that Developing Index is listed above Region. Click OK. The graph will update automatically.

  7. This app also has the capability for choosing to arrange the layers as horizontally or vertically. Click on the green lock at the top-left corner of the graph and selecting Change Parameters. This time select Vertical radio button for Align Layers. Choose to indicate Significance Mark with P-Value with Bracket and select Exclude n.s. in Group. Click OK. Each group is now plotted on a separate layer.

To find more sample graphs about this app, go back to the root folder of this sample project, and there is a workbook embedded with various sample graphs. Double click on a graph will open it in a separated window. You can always view the detailed settings by clicking the green lock on the graph.
