Use the controls on this page to specify an import file name, data type, target template and import filter. This page is common to all Data Types: ASCII, Binary and User-Defined. Note that the availability of some controls is dependent upon other settings made on this page. Therefore, it is advised that you proceed systematically through this dialog box, from top to bottom.
ASCII files, including those that contain Extended ASCII characters.
Files with an optional header section followed by a sequential binary structure.
Essentially any file that cannot be read by ASCII or Binary import routines. User must supply import instructions in the form of Origin C code.
To import data from an ASCII, Binary, or User Defined Data Types, select the File radio button. Enter the file name (or use the browse button to locate the data file).
To import data that has been copied to the Clipboard, select the Clipboard radio button.
If this checkbox is cleared, all filters that are applicable to Data Type are displayed in the Import Filters for Current Data Type drop-down list.If this checkbox is selected, the Import Filters for Current Data Type drop-down list will display only those filters conforming to the Specify Data File Names... specification on the Save Filters page of the Import Wizard (includes filters which conform by means of a wild card specification).

This non-editable text box lists any descriptive text that was entered in the Filter Description field on the Save Filters page of the Import Wizard, at the time of filter (.OIF) creation.
Specify a Target Window -- Worksheet, Matrix, or None -- for the data import.
Name the Template to be used in creating new windows. New windows are created:
If no template is specified, the Origin default workbook or matrixbook template <default> is used (this would be the workbook or matrixbook that is opened from the New... buttons on the Standard toolbar).
If <clone> is selected as Template, current workbook or matrixbook will be used as template for importing new files.
If a filter exists for the named file type and the filter has a template specification, then new windows are created using the template specified in the Import Filters for Current Data Type drop-down list.
The Import Mode drop-down control determines where imported data are written (consistent with Target Window and Template specifications).
Data are imported into the active window when Import Mode is set to Replace Existing Data or Start New Sheets/Columns/Rows.
Data are imported into new windows, created using the named Template when Import Mode is set to Start New Book and the active window is not empty or is not of the Target Window type.
