29.6.1 Double Y Graph

Double Y 01.png

Data Requirements

Select at least two Y columns (or a range of at least two Y columns). If there is an associated X column, X column supplies X values; otherwise, sampling interval of the Y column or row number is used.

Multiple Y columns will be sepereated into 2 groups by 2 X columns; otherwise, these Y columns will be assigned to different Y axis by sequence.

Creating the Graph

Select the required data.

Select Plot > Multi-Panel/Axis: Double Y.

Template

DblY.OTP (installed to the Origin program folder).

Notes

This double-Y axis graph has only one layer but show two Y axes(left Y and right Y) with different scales. The template has the same data requirements and produces the same graph as the two-layer 2Ys Y-Y. If two columns of values are selected (or a range of two columns), both display in a single layer. Each data point in the data plot is connected by a line. The default line connection between points is a straight line. The data points are displayed as symbols.

Two control groups have been added to support this graph type:

  • The Plot Data to option in the Display tab of Plot Details dialog cna be used to decide which Y axis the current plot should be plotted on.
  • In the Show tab of Axis dialog, you can decide whether to show the right and left Y axis both in same layer and if these two Y axes have independent scales. Once there are two Y axes with independent axis scale, you can further customzize the axis scale, grid lines, reference lines and breaks for these two Y axes independently.
