Summary:

This tool fits multiple functions to your data and determines which function best fits the data.

Screen Shot and Video:
Description:

Note: With the release of Origin 9.1, Rank Models feature can be directly accessed in menu Analysis: Fitting: Rank Models which includes all the capabilities of this tool.
You can select a function category, and all functions from that category will be used to fit the data. The fit results are ranked using the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) value, and the output presents a sorted list with the best fitting function on top. A detailed fit report for the best fitting function is also created.

Installation Instructions:
Simply drag the FuncRank.opx file onto Origin.

Operation Instructions:
1. To launch the tool, with either graph or worksheet active, select Analysis: Fitting: Fit and rank multiple functions in a specified category... from the main menu to open the dialog.
2. Specify the data to be fitted. You can perform weighted fitting by optionally specifying the error data.
3. Select a function category from the drop-down menu. A list of all functions in that category will be displayed in the dialog. You can further customize the function list by clicking and selecting/deselecting entries in that list. If you want to choose your own category, you can use the Fitting Function Organizer tool in Origin to first create a category.
4. Optionally select additional fit statistics to be included in the ranking table.

Output
In the summary of fitting results, the functions are ranked according to the BIC value column. You can sort the output table using any other column. To change the function category or the function list, you can click on the lock in the result sheets and select Change Parameters to re-open the dialog. The detailed fitting results of "best" function is created as a separate output sheet.
