OriginLab Releases New Data Analysis and Graphing Software, Origin 2019

Latest version includes Start Menu with Search within Origin, enhanced interaction with data in graphs, Conditional Formatting of Worksheets, New Workbook Dialog, Violin Plot, Parallel Plot, Cluster Plot, and Graph Maker, Stats Advisor, and Design of Experiments App

Northampton, Massachusetts - October 26, 2018 - OriginLab, a leading publisher of data analysis and graphing software, today announced the release of Origin® and OriginPro 2019. This latest version of OriginLab’s award-winning software application adds over 75 new features, Apps, and improvements, further enhancing Origin’s ease-of-use, graphing, analysis and programming capabilities.

A key addition to Origin 2019 is a new Start menu with search feature. Users can type keywords or phrases to quickly find and launch menu items, free Apps, search for Origin Project files in recently accessed folders, open graphing and analysis sample projects, access documentation, videos and more. This feature works similarly to the Windows® Start menu, and also includes quick access to recently-opened project files and recently used Apps and menu items.

Another key feature Origin 2019 is enhanced interactivity with data in graphs. Three new features have been introduced: Data Highlighting, Plot Highlighting, and Data Point Tooltip. The Data Highlighting feature allows users to select a single data point or set of points in a graph, and have the data from the corresponding worksheet rows highlighted in all other graphs in the project. The worksheet rows are also highlighted, allowing for further processing of the selected data. The Plot Highlighting feature lets users highlight a particular data plot amongst many, by fading all other plots. The selection is also recognized by analysis tools and gadgets, allowing for quick analysis of the desired data plot. With the new Data Point Tooltip, users can simply hover on a data point in a graph to read the data values for the point. The display can be customized to include values from other data columns in the worksheet as well as metadata associated with the data plot.

This version also introduces several new graph types: Violin Plot, Parallel Plot; Cluster Plot; Double-Y Trellis Plot; Row-wise Line Series Plot; Contour Plot from Categorical Z Values; Heatmap Plot with Labels; Tetrahedral Plot; Grouped Scatter Plot; and Stacked Histograms. Other key features in this version include: Conditional Formatting of Worksheets; New Workbook Dialog with a selection of built-in workbook templates; Column List View for worksheets with very large number of columns; improved handling of empty cells and missing values in worksheets.

Two key Apps included with the Origin 2019 installation are Graph Maker and Stats Advisor. The Graph Maker App allows users to quickly create multi-panel graphs by simply dragging and dropping columns in a friendly interface to assign X, Y and Y error data, and assign data columns for grouping in vertical and horizontal directions. Data in other columns can also be used to set attributes for the plot such as symbol type, size and color. The Stats Advisor App walks the user though a series of questions about their data, and then recommends the appropriate statistical tools or free Apps that are appropriate for their data. Other key Apps in this version include: Design of Experiments; Peak Deconvolution; Fitting Function Library; Global Fit with Multiple Functions; Gaussian Mixture Model; Image Object Counter; Word Cloud; Graph Publisher; Batch Plotting; Align Peaks; Independent Component Analysis; and Import LSM.

“We are now releasing two major versions of Origin each year. This allows us to resolve customer-reported issues in a timely manner,” said Dr. C.P. Yang, founder and CEO, OriginLab. “Having two releases a year also helps us add features to Origin for developing and distributing new Apps throughout the year.”

Origin offers an intuitive, point-and-click interface for new users, combined with a wide range of powerful functions for advanced purposes. OriginPro includes all of the features of Origin plus extended analysis tools. Origin and OriginPro are used by more than 500,000 registered customers worldwide spanning Fortune Global 500 companies, research institutions, and colleges and universities across various disciplines including physics, chemistry, biology, pharmacology, engineering, and manufacturing.
